Health Insurance for EU Citizens
In Germany, health insurance is compulsory.
EU citizens have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). With this card, EU citizens can receive medical care in all EU countries.
What do you have to do?
In order to enrol at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, you must submit proof of your health insurance coverage.
Please complete the following two steps at least 4-6 weeks before your trip to us:
- send a scan of your EHIC card (front and back) with the following text to a German Health Insurance Company (e.g. studentenservice@plus.aok.de) AND put us (incoming@uni-weimar.de) in "cc" of your message:
"Good afternoon, my name is [your surname(s), first name(s)]. I was born on [your date of birth] in [your place of birth]. I will be spending a semester abroad at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in [semester of stay at the Bauhaus-Universität]. I am currently living [address of your current country of residence or your future address in Weimar]. Please find attached a scan of my insurance documents. Please forward the data to Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (M10) so that I can be enrolled as an exchange student. I would also like to ask you to prepare an "Exemption from compulsory health insurance in Germany". Thank you very much."
