Job Opening
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt are currently seeking applications for
12 Doctoral Positions (f/m/d)
in the DFG Research Training Group »Gewohnter Wandel. Gesellschaftliche Transformation und räumliche Materialisierung des Wohnens« (GRK 2892/1) (Societal Transformation and Spatial Materialisation of Housing«) to be filled by 1 October 2024 (part-time, 75 %, E13, six each in Weimar and Frankfurt). Remuneration is regulated according to the provisions of the collective wage agreement for public service extending to salary group 13 (TV-L in Weimar and TV-G-U in Frankfurt) depending on personal qualifications. The term of the positions is limited to 31 March 2028.
The interdisciplinary DFG Research Training Group explores the interdependence between societal transformation and the built environment of housing. The aim is to develop research perspectives through which questions of housing, its transformation and future can systematically be analysed. An accompanying study programme will facilitate knowledge of theories and methods of interdisciplinary housing research and will also strengthen interdisciplinary academic competencies. In addition, non-academic partners of the Research Training Group will provide practical knowledge on housing provision and housing research.
Tasks include work on an independent PhD-project as well as participation and active involvement in the research and study programme of the Research Training Group. It is required that members of the GRK take residence in Weimar or Frankfurt. It is also expected that interim results of the doctorate are regularly presented.
Appointment requirements:
- A qualified, above-average university degree of science (Master, Diplom or comparable) in one of the disciplines represented by the professors in the Research Training Group or a related discipline,
- A doctoral project in interdisciplinary housing research that addresses the research questions posed by the Research Training Group,
- Very good methodological knowledge and research experience (e.g. in topics relevant to the Research Training Group) as well as ability and dedication to academic writing,
- Sound foundational knowledge in at least one of the three working areas of the Research Training Group,
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills as well as a personal commitment to the subject matter and to the RTG are desirable,
- The primary working language of the Research Training Group is German, though research projects may be pursued in German or English. Very good written and spoken skills in both German and English are required.
Application:
- Please submit the following documents together with your application: CV including a list of publications (if applicable), university transcripts, a letter of recommendation from a university lecturer (professor) and a one-page letter of motivation.
- We also expect a short synopsis of no more than three pages (including bibliography) outlining an initial idea for a research project. This project outline should explicitly refer to the topic of the Research Training Group and demonstrate the willingness and ability to deal theoretically and empirically with the societal transformation and spatial materialisation of housing in a joint research context.
- In your application, please indicate in which of the relevant disciplines you intend to pursue a doctoral degree and which of the two locations would be more appropriate for your project. Please also mention which of the three fields of work you think your project will pertain to and which of the participating professors you believe would be ideal to supervise the project.
