1923 - 2023
1923 | Bauhaus-Ausstellung
In their first major exhibition, from 15 August to 30 September 1923, the Bauhäusler showed the results of their work at three locations in today's Museum Neues Weimar, in the Main Building and in the Van de Velde Building as well as in the newly built Haus Am Horn.
In the process, the buildings themselves became exhibition objects: In the main building, Joost Schmidt, Herbert Bayer and Walter Gropius redesigned rooms and staircases; for the workshop building, Oskar Schlemmer designed murals in the entrance area and staircase.
The highlight of the exhibition was the model building Haus Am Horn, a ready-to-live-in single-family house that was built within four months. Here the Bauhaus' views on architecture, furniture, design and colour were presented in a bundled form for the first time.

100 years later, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is using the centenary as an opportunity to provide an insight into its own contemporary works and themes. To this end, students and teachers are inviting visitors to exhibitions and events from April to November 2023.
The central location is the Schiller Museum in Weimar's city centre: the university gallery »nova space« will move in there for the entire anniversary period with the interdisciplinary exhibition »Power House«. In addition, teaching and research projects from all faculties will present their results at specific dates and locations.
In the centenary year, the university places particular emphasis on deepening existing partnerships and initiating new ones.
Witnesses to the Bauhaus exhibition of 1923 can still be seen in various places in Weimar today. For example, reconstructions of the wall designs by Herbert Bayer, Joost Schmidt and Oskar Schlemmer as well as Walter Gropius's director's room can be found in the historic buildings of the Van de Velde ensemble on the university campus.
