We develop a software which translates the weather forecast into a one minute long compilation film. Though the software accesses a database with countless clips from motion pictures, showing all kind of weather situations or making visual or verbal comments about the weather. The clip pool contains motion pictures of the post-war Hollywood era to the present day and European art house films.
The basis for the dramatization of each “weather movie” is the weather forecast, which guides as a voiceover through the film. The software selects first the film clips according to the weather forecast and then edits the different film clips together.
Therefore the software takes into account the principles rules of filmmaking, such as field size, the narrative pace, view axes, camera movements, light moods etc..
The whole process is done at the touch of the button. Every movie is unique, because every time somebody pushes the button a new movie will be created. Furthermore the user can chose for which location he wants to see the weather forecast film.
During the summaery we present the current status of the project. Beside the exhibition, we´ll present the project in connection to the Medienrolle in the Audimax, Saturday night.
