In her bachelor project »Ukrainian Tarot« Anastasiia Orobko intensively dealt with a cultural heritage of her home country Ukraine - the elaborately embroidered traditional costume blouses Vyshyvanky.
The traditional embroidery patterns that have been handed down for centuries form the basis for a graphic imagery developed by Anastasiia Orobko and her own font. She used these for the design of a tarot deck with 78 cards and an accompanying manual. In this way, Orobko combines the traditional patterns of Ukraine with the motifs of the tarot fortune-telling cards, which have also been known for centuries.
She justifies the choice of this complex medium in the function of the cards: In addition to providing information about an uncertain future, tarot serves as a psychological support for decision-making. Thus, the tarot cards with Vyshyvanka motifs become a symbol of the currently uncertain future of Ukraine shaken by war - but also a symbol of optimism for the preservation of Ukrainian identity.
