LinksProject description online
In the year 1919 Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus, which was meant to "educate the versatilely, artistically and universally thinking human being, to whom life in it's coherent entirety is more important than in it's separate segments."
How can one encourage and promote the education of such a human being?
At what time and under which circumstances are certain abilities of humans developed?
Which compentences constitute the foundation of autonomous learning?
How can one structure learning processes to be palpable, exemplified and understandable for learners?
What should be made available for children and students, for them to construct their own knowledge?
For "knowledge cannot be transmitted from one person to another. [...] The only way, an organism can increase knowledge is by constructing it on it's own or for it's own self.[...]"
Based on this conclusion and on the model of the versatilely applicable learning aid called "PLATTENBAU", the process of drafting the design and concept, up to the finished product, the user-anaylisis and an array of application concepts will be supported and advised and made understandable to our students.
The goal of this specialised course is the developement of a prototype of a toy, which can also be used in a learning context by the students of the Bauhaus University. These prototypes are meant to be utilised in the "Bauhäuschen" (which is the child daycare of the University) or in school classes.
