Project description online

Gran Tourismo 5D is an interactive sculpture: a meditation cabin and a tank. It is a machine, which seizes the past and future at the same time. It's negotiating the dream of paradise in place of the vacation.
The motive is the island: the island as cabin, the island as display subject of the interior screens. Reaching this island has always been impossible, although we always pretended it was not.
Gran Toursimo 5D gives place to one person. The experience only reveals itself in isolation. The inner space is padded and soundproofed. Synchronised color gradients on three screens show animated beaches and so-called floating islands. The distorted sound of waves is heard.
Since the human inside reflects him or herself locked up in a tank, he/she becomes dislocated. The outer shell simulates a protection against its environment: a robust construction of synthetic substance and steel. Warning patterns, crash test symbols and foam material complement a military green.
Because of the spring suspension, the movement of the capsule is exclusively dependent upon the user. The body movement inside manually and intuitively controls the vibration.
