Project description online
Within human migration a lot of personal items came to Europe. But even before the wave of migration arose, in times of conquerors and colonization, diverse objects migrated to Europe and influenced the European culture. These migrated things tell us a lot of stories, about foreign cultures, their practices, functions, technologies, but also about social contexts, hierarchies, economical interests and political goals.
The exhibtion "Migration of Things" look at these “things” under the perspective of their migration and assimilation to European culture. 60 diverse objects from 12 archives and collections in Thuringia will be shown at the marvellous castle Belvedere in Weimar. The „migrated“ objects will tell us a new story of migration and the imagination of national identity.
